“The planets are God’s punctuation marks pointing the sentences of human fate, written in the constellations.”

Originally, the word planet comes from the Greek word planetes, or “wanderer.” This is due to the fact that the planets all travel through space along a defined orbit, and at a fixed pace. In  Astrology, there are nine main planets, or Navagrahas: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. However, there are also three shadow planets, or Chayagrahas: Gulika, Mandi, and Yamakantaka, which are used for certain calculations and interpretations. So in total, there are 12 planets in Vedic Astrology.  Each planet has its own unique qualities and characteristics, and their positions in a person’s birth chart can provide valuable insights into their personality, strengths, and weaknesses.

In English, nakshatras are known as “lunar mansions.” The position of the moon in a person’s birth chart is used to determine their nakshatra which can provide insights into their personality, strengths, and weaknesses. Nakshatras are also divided into groups based on their elemental and directional qualities. There are three groups of nakshatras: Deva (godly), Nara (human), and Rakshasa (demonic). DASHAS- THE PLANETARY PERIOD

Dashas are an important tool in Astrology for predicting future events and understanding the timing of important life events. Dasha means ‘state of being’ and it is believed that the Dasha largely governs the state of being of a person. The first Maha Dasha is determined by the position of the natal Moon in a given Nakshatra. The lord of the Nakshatra governs the Dasha. Each Maha Dasha is divided into sub-periods called Bhuktis, or Antar Dasha which are proportional divisions of the Maha-Dasha. Further proportional sub-divisions can be made, but error margins based on accuracy of the birth time grow exponentially. The next sub-division is called Pratyantar-Dasha which can in turn be divided into Sookshma -Antardasha, which can in turn be divided into Praana- Antardasha, which can be sub-divided into Deha-Antardasha.The science of astrology is used for many different purposes.
