Srimad Bhagwat Katha is a sacred scripture that describes the life and teachings of Lord Krishna, the supreme personality of God. It is also known as Bhagavata Purana, which is one of the 18 major Puranas in Hinduism. It consists of 12 cantos (Skandhas), 335 chapters and 18,000 verses14. It covers various topics such as creation, cosmology, devotion, ethics, philosophy and liberation4. Shrimad Bhagwat Katha or Srimad Bhagwat Puran,is a seven days paath. It is also referred to as Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran.Shrimad Bhagwat Puran is a very Holy Scripture,that has the answers related to many spheres of life.This Enlightenment / Knowledge was imparted by Lord Krishna himself to Arjuna on the battleground of Kurukshetra .This knowledge is even valid today and also can be considered a higher philosophy .

Shrimad Bhagwat Puran is the essence of all Vedic information and one of the foremost vital Upanishads in vedic literature.There are 18000 verses in the Shrimad Bhagwat Katha.Bhagwat Geeta or Geeta Upanishad or plainly referred as Geeta ,is a derivative of the Shrimad Bhagwat Puran.There is a narration in the vedic scriptures, about King Parikshit and Shrimad Bhagwat Puran. King Parikshit was cursed by Sage Shringi, as king Parikshit had put a dead snake around Sage Shringi’s fathers neck . Sage Shringi got extremely upset and cursed King Parikshit that he will die in 7 days, that too with a snake bite only.King Parikshit was a pious soul and realized that he had committed a sin while being under the influence of Kali (Kali yug ) .

King Parikshit, knew that he had limited time on him and hence wanted to know what can be done in 7 days so that he can attain Moksha. He was made to understand that Shrimad Bhagwat Puran is the ultimate knowledge which can lead to Moksha.Shukdev rishi , personally came down to Mrityu Lok ( Earth ) and narrated the Bhagwat Puran to King Parikshit. Shukdev rishi completed the narration in 7 days . King Parikshit with full devotion concentrated on the lotus feet of the supreme God Sri Krishna and heard the Shrimad Bhagwat Puran .
